Great Golf at Cheap Prices
Los Verdes Golf Course is an American Golf owned course in the heart of scenic Rancho Palos Verdes, CA. The course is, from the blue tees, rated at a 72.2 with a slope of 126 and plays to 6631 yards. Though it is not extremely long at 6631 yards from the blue tees, the course is hilly and the greens are lightning fast, resulting in a slope of 126 and a rating of 72.2. The premises include a golf shop, bar and restaurant, two decks of hitting mats on the range, and two large putting greens. It is recommended you arrive well before your tee time to get used to the rub of the greens. The breaks can be deceiving (unless you remember that it always breaks towards the ocean) and the greens are very slick, leading to many tricky putts.
Because of it's prime location, the golf course features ocean views on every hole, save one or two. The signature hole, number 15, looks to be straight out of a catalog, playing directly into a picturesque view of the ocean. Many of the other holes also do not disappoint.
Though it is one of the more beautiful and well maintained golf courses in the American Golf family, it is modestly priced at $25/weekday and $33/weekend, not including cart. These prices put it on par with almost every other American Golf course in L.A. County, even those in the middle of cities with no views at all. As can be expected with such a bargain, the course is very popular amongst the locals, and it gets very crowded very quickly. In fact, in order to get a tee time, locals have been known to camp out the night before they start taking reservations (they take reservations one week in advance at 6am). Thus, you can see a group of enthusiasts lining up well before 6am on a Saturday morning for a chance to make a reservation for the following Saturday. Suffice to say, it is near impossible to get a tee time last minute, and walking on is a nightmare.
For the lucky ones that are able to play the course, they will be greeted with six hour rounds and long waits between every shot. Though many think it's worth the wait, as you can simply take in the view and ocean breeze as you wait for your turn. In addition, the course is impeccably maintained, especially in comparison to other American Golf courses in the county, which are marked with divots all over the course (and unfixed ball marks on the greens). For the price, there is no beating Los Verdes Golf Course in the entire county.
